I’m not sure if you’re like me - chompin’ at the bit during winter to wet a line and catch fish somewhere. Even if it’s Naples, FL in February or early warm day in March, I have to get out and chase fish.
This past few days in Chicago burbs has been in the high 60’s and small ponds have warmed up enough for the bass to wake from their winter slumber and seek food.
I ventured out on Saturday and caught a couple small bass on crawdad flies, slowly short stripping along bottom. I realized the strikes and takes were near the shore within a few feet. I realize they were following and chasing.
Monday was close to 70 degrees and I arrived at the ponds around 11:30 am. I had a few short bites and a couple tossed the hook near shore.
Around 1pm, the ponds were energized with feeding bass. I was using a fly I created on a worm hook to resemble a small bass. It worked! I lost 2 and caught 4. It was a gorgeous day to be out wetting a line!
