Muskegon River Newaygo, MI

My friend Mike Lapiana purchased a drift boat and asked me if I wanted to join him on a fly fishing trip down the Muskegon River in Newaygo, MI. We stayed at a real nice resort called "A Paradise Resort". The weather was unseasonable warm with temps reaching close to 90 degrees. We gained a lot of knowledge from a friend of Mike's who is a seasoned guide on the Muskegon. His name is Bob Mansel. Bob was kind enough to take us on a free guided trip on the river in his jet boat. He showed us how to rig our lines properly for nymphing. During our 4 days, we encountered fair numbers of Redhorse Suckers continuing to spawn which was perfect nymphing for large trout. The trout were directly behind the suckers eating the spawn as fast as it was produced. We would drop the nymph rig on top of the suckers and directly into the trout feeding lanes. We had a great time and look forward to fishing the Muskegon River again.
