1. Where did you grow up? Winnetka until I was l3, NY suburbs until I returned to Chicago in l973 to go to Graduate school

2. What is your favorite fish? it’s a tie between baby tarpon and trout

3. What is your favorite fly? H&L Variant

4. What is your favorite color? Red

5. What is your favorite book? too many to choose from—Out of Africa, any of the novels by Carl Hiassen or Randy Wayne White, Fishless days and Angling Nights by Sparse Grey Hackle, Fisherman’s Winter by Roderick L. Haig-Brown, most of the books by Bill Bryson

6. How long have you been fly fishing? Since 1965

7. What is your favorite movie?
Again, too many to pick just one: most Frank Capra movies (Mr Smith Goes to
Washington, Mr Deed Goes to Town), Silverado, Saving Private Ryan, Out of Africa

8. Where is your favorite place to fish? New Zealand, so far

9. If you could fish anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would it be?
Despite having fished in 20 countries I have to admit to getting more excited fishing the hex hatch in
Wisconsin more than any other place I can think of.

10. If you could have anyone guide your next fishing trip, who would your guide be? Stu Apte—a master tarpon guide and teacher

11. Do you use an electric or manual razor? Electric at home, manual on the road
